DVD Description

The third season was the charm for one of HBO's gold standard series, which earned its first Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series to go along with its Golden Globes for Best Comedy Series and Best Actress (Sarah Jessica Parker). The writing is as sharp as ever, with more trendy product placement than a Bret Easton Ellis novel and ribald banter that's a cross between the Algonquin Round Table and the Friars Club. One of this season's two principal story arcs concerned hapless-in-love Charlotte (Kristin Davis) and her pursuit of a husband; enter (if only...) Kyle McLachlan as the unfortunately impotent Trey. Meanwhile, sex columnist Carrie has a brief but memorable fling with a politician who’s golden, but not in the way she anticipated. She then sabotages her too-good-to-be-true relationship with furniture designer Aidan (John Corbett) by having an affair with Mr. Big (Chris Noth), who himself has gotten married.

"Do we need drama to make a relationship work?" Carrie muses at one point. Sex and the City needs drama to make it work, and Parker and Cynthia Nixon (as career woman Miranda), this ensemble's better half, give the show its pulsating heart as they wrestle with commitment and, in the episode "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," sadder-but-wiser breakups. On the lighter side, the sexual dalliances of "rude and politically incorrect" Samantha (Kim Cattrall) provide great fodder for comedy. Like I Love Lucy, the series benefited from a brief change of scenery with a three-episode jaunt to Los Angeles, where Carrie and company encountered, among others, Matthew McConaughey, Vince Vaughn, Hugh Hefner, and Sarah Michelle Gellar. At its best, to quote one character, Sex and the City is "sharp, edgy, brutal at times, always a little juicy." It may be "very New York," but the sex and relationship issues it tackles are universal. For its devoted fans, the release of this 18-episode, three-disc set is, to quote Gellar's clueless Hollywood junior development exec, "chick flick big." --Donald Liebenson

Young and Professional--- please apply here.

I love Sex and the City. SJP has said on many occasions that the city is the 5th lady. I agree. The show is shot in the most beautiful place in the world. (can you tell I am a native?)So, it's fitting that the cast reflects the beauty of the city. I love the wonderful writing and the complexity of the characters. It's shows like this that remind the female population that being single isn't a crime and you can be young, sexual and a professional without feeling like maybe the clock is ticking. I have my current boy friend so hooked, that I think that he has watched the DVD's more than I have. I own the first two seasons and love them. I agree with the others that the third is better than the first two. And I sure can't wait for the 4th to be released. So Enjoy city dwellers and always remember, you might find your own, Mr. Big....

I love it, but.....

I bought all three seasons this past depressing, snow-bound winter. After just a couple of days of constant SITC viewing, my husband was making fun of me for not moving from the couch all weekend. A few days later I found that he had taken root at the other end. Heh! This is a collection that men won't mind being made to watch. As for the content...it's not that this season is lacking eventful, suspenseful content. It's just depressing. Carrie spends most of the season making stupid, weak decisions. Yeah, maybe we've all made them. But it leaves you thinking she's not so fabulous. On a more practical note...If you have spent the past few years glued to HBO on Sunday nights OR if you spent money on the first two, you might as well get the third. If the 4th season in its entirety is as good as the few shows I've seen, you'll need to see the 3rd season to catch up on the storyline. It might be worth it to catch a few snazzy one-liners from Samantha, haha!

The best you can get

Sex and the city (SAC) has it all. Four sucessful women who show the world they have it all. 4 different caracters that reflects how hard is for a woman ,who lives in a city like NY, to date guys.

This is one of the greats achivements from HBO and definetly a must-buy.

You can't get bore of watching SAC. It has just the exact levels of eroticism and sex not to fall into a vulgar show. Besides, the scripts are so smart and not to mention the perfomances: Sara Jessica Parker as the smart columnist, Kristin Davis as the conservative lady, Cynthia Nicholson as the judgemental and last but no least (totally the opposite) the marvelous acting of Kim Kattrall as the bitchy, self-confidence, man-eater Samantha Jones (She's hot and she rules! ;)).

If you had had any experiences on bad dates, bad ruptures, bad romances, etc, etc, etc, .... watch this show you. Wheather you are a guy or a girl, you will identify with the comical situations.

Can't wait for the Fourth Season on DVD!
