The movie is actually based in a book about Kim and Krickitt carpenter. They have a happy love story until they got into a horrible car accident which left Krickitt in a state of coma. The doctors doubted that she would survive but she rallied and healed. However, the Carpenter family did not get the whole Krickett package since she came back without memory of some parts of her life. Kim and Krickitt only shared ten weeks of their married life before the accident occurred.

When a nurse asked her what year it was the first time that she went out of coma, she said it was 1969. That was as far as she remembered. She retained most of her long term memory but lost those that came after 1969. She recalls her parents but had no idea that she was already married.
