Here’s a bit of a movie synopsis for you before you watch surrogates online.Surrogates is essentially a vanity driven future where people design ‘surrogates’ that walk around the world as themselves, while they lie in some stupid bed at home pretending that they are amazing while controlling a robot. The surrogates also give their owner security because owners will be home and never have any problems in the real world.

A killing occurs of one of the real humans which results in Bruce Willis who plays Agent Greer to investigate into this death with his surrogate. Willis leaves his house for the first time in years instead of using his Surrogate to track down the killer.
Touchstone is involved in getting the movie out there under the Disney brand (interesting what movies they get into these days) to let you watch surrogates online.

Watch Surrogates online to see Bruce Willis, Rosamund Pike, Ving Rhames, and James Cromwell in the cast of this movie made from Robert Vendetti’s 2005-2006 comic book series, also titled Surrogates. The movie is co-directed by Bruce Willis and Jonathan Mostow.

The movie takes place in 2054. All humans live in almost total isolation. They are reluctant to leave their homes, and communicate with others using remote controlled robots, or surrogates that are basically walking, talking avatars. Because of this, crime is rare. Damage done to a surrogate is not sensed by the owner, so people have the feeling of living in a world free from pain and crime.

Willis, as an FBI agent named Greer, presses his own surrogate into service in the investigation of the first murder that has taken place in many years. The victim is the college student who invented the surrogates in the first place. Several humans are then murdered, and Greer realizes that to catch the murderer he’ll have to get out there on his own, with no surrogate to track him or her down.

The movie is the result of a collaboration between Max Handelman and Elizabeth Banks. Filming began in April 2008 in Woburn, Massachusetts, with location filming in Worcester, Milford, Laurence, Taunton, Wayland, and Hopedale. If you watch Surrogates online, you’ll see the special effects results that are the work of Brickyard VFX.

Other stars you’ll see when you watch Surrogates online are Radha Mitchell as Greer’s partner, Agent Peters, Boris Kodjoe, Jack Noseworthy, and James Francis Ginty. When Greer takes on the case, he discovers there is a far-reaching conspiracy behind the surrogate program and that the utopia everyone thought they were living in isn’t as idyllic as they thought.

Vendetti wrote his comic book series after reading about relationships that failed after one partner became obsessed with online gaming and online social networking. Watch Surrogates online and you’ll see that it skewers the American obsession over physical perfection and willingness to trade freedom for what they see as safety. Some people believe that the world described in Surrogates is not that far off technologically.

Surrogates Trailer

Watch the Surrogates trailer online if you want a glimpse of the graphic novel based movie in which people don’t interact, but rather send robotic surrogates to do it for them. In this futuristic world, people create lifelike avatars that reflect their idealized version of themselves. For example, follicularly-challenged Agent Greer (played by Bruce Willis) has an avatar with an awesomely bad toupee.

In this world where robots interact with each other instead of people, there is theoretically no crime, since robots can do whatever they want to each other without the humans behind them being harmed. But then an actual human is murdered: the genius who invented surrogates to begin with. Soon other people die, and Greer has to venture out into the real world (surrogate free) to figure out what’s going on. Surrogates Movie Review

Surrogates is the new movie co-directed by Bruce Willis and Jonathan Mostow and starring Willis as an FBI agent. In the futuristic world of the movie, nobody leaves their homes anymore. They simply recline in their “stem chair” and plug into a world in which personally designed avatars interact with each other on behalf of the human race. It’s sort-of a case of the entire human race opting into a Matrix type setup where their surrogates make all the decisions, perform all the actions, and take all the consequences.

Except for one case.

The human who invented the surrogates is found murdered. Which is odd because there’s not supposed to be any crime in a world where humans remain happily in their homes all the time and let their surrogates duke it out. It also might lead you to ask yourself why they even need an FBI in a world in which there isn’t any crime.

Willis’ character is an agent named Greer, and Rosamund Pike plays his way-too-hot-for-the-likes-of-Bruce-Willis wife Maggie. Radha Mitchell plays Greer’s FBI partner, Agent Peters. Before going, you should ask yourself if you’re up for 88 minutes of what some have called a cross between The Island and I Robot, with a dash of The Matrix thrown in? It will probably come down to whether you’re a Bruce Willis fan or not.

Or if you’re big on the movies where a Utopian world proves to be only a veneer over something twisted and wrong. One redeeming quality of the movie is that the story, which comes from a 2005-2006 comic book series also titled Surrogate, is something that is not that hard to imagine. How many of us hide behind an internet connection, interacting all day with people we’ll never meet? How many of us will simply cut off an online relationship if it sours, minimizing the psychic pain that would result from living out a real person to person relationship?

Which is not to say there is anything wrong with having online friendships and working partnerships. Only when it becomes a substitute for everything else does it become shallow and unsatisfying. It doesn’t seem that much of a stretch to the imagination to envision taking the online role playing games a couple of steps further and having them acted out in the physical world between machines that we’ve designated to represent us.
